How To Measure Your Room
What You Need
Tape Measure (laser measurer if you have one)
Pen & paper (or a smartphone/tablet for drawing)
Sketch Your Room Layout
Start by drawing a rough outline of your room.
Include:
Windows (drawn as double lines)
Doors (shown with a semi-circle to indicate swing)
Radiators
Any fixed items e.g. wardrobes.
This sketch will serve as a reference when adding measurements.
Take Measurements
Measure Each Wall - Start at one corner and measure the full length of each wall, moving around the room.
Measure Between Openings - Record the distances between doors, windows and any pillars.
Windows & Hatches
Measure height from the floor to the bottom of the windowsill
Measure the recess height and width
4. Measure Floor To Ceiling Height
Add Measurements to your Sketch
Write down the measurements on your drawing, next to the corresponding walls, windows and doors.
If possible, mark the positions of the light switches, power sockets, and radiators. If not, include them in your photos.
