How To Measure Your Room

What You Need

  • Tape Measure (laser measurer if you have one)

  • Pen & paper (or a smartphone/tablet for drawing)

Sketch Your Room Layout

Start by drawing a rough outline of your room.

Include:

  • Windows (drawn as double lines)

  • Doors (shown with a semi-circle to indicate swing)

  • Radiators

  • Any fixed items e.g. wardrobes.

This sketch will serve as a reference when adding measurements.

Take Measurements

  1. Measure Each Wall - Start at one corner and measure the full length of each wall, moving around the room.

  2. Measure Between Openings - Record the distances between doors, windows and any pillars.

  3. Windows & Hatches

    • Measure height from the floor to the bottom of the windowsill

    • Measure the recess height and width

4. Measure Floor To Ceiling Height

Add Measurements to your Sketch

  • Write down the measurements on your drawing, next to the corresponding walls, windows and doors.

  • If possible, mark the positions of the light switches, power sockets, and radiators. If not, include them in your photos.
